Command Line Display of a Folder Tree

If you have ever needed to print out a folder hierarchy in Windows this is for you. Go to the command line (Start > Run > cmd), traverse to the folder you want to list out (ie: cd c:/reallysweetfolder/) and type tree.
Your view will look something like this:

├───Browsers
│ ├───Minefield
│ ├───Mozilla Firefox
│ ├───Mozilla Firefox 2 Beta 2
│ └───Other
│ ├───Mozilla Firefox
│ ├───Netscape4
│ └───Opera

Now, of course you’d want to throw in some options (display files in the folders and list it out in ASCII characters) and export this to a text file right? Well, just type:

tree /f /a >c:/myFolderList.txt

Here’s the help for reference:

Graphically displays the folder structure of a drive or path.
TREE [drive:][path] [/F] [/A]

/F Display the names of the files in each folder.
/A Use ASCII instead of extended characters.

Salary Resources on the Web

There is a nice article from the New York Times called Using the Web to Get the Boss to Pay More that will give you a good summary for salary research on the web. The article gives some good background information on where a lot of the top job sites get their salary information from. America Online, Yahoo, HotJobs.com and Monster.com get their info from Salary.com and CareerBuilder.com, Jobster.com and SimplyHired.com, get their info from PayScale.com.

Take Solace to Appear at the Art Bar

Take Solace will be playing at the Art Bar in Riverwest again on March 24th around 8PM. They liked us so much that they are having us back. There will be a pub crawl going on in Riverwest so there should be a good crowd. We’ll probably have another original song or two to debut too (depending upon my workload until then).

Please show your support by showing up and bringing some friends. Take your camera too so we can get some cool pictures and post them up at takesolace.com/exhibitions/.

The Art Bar is pretty close to the corners of Humboldt and Burleigh – just go West (away from the lake) on Burleigh a couple of blocks from Humboldt and the Art Bar will be on the North side of the street.
